Iran seeks to cooperate with Spain to expand entrepreneurship and business development

On the 18th of October 2022, Jahangir Yadollahi, the dean of the faculty of entrepreneurship at the University of Tehran had a meeting with Angel Losada Fernandez, the ambassador of Spain to Iran which was held in Tehran.

In this meeting, Yadollahi emphasized the role of universities in developing entrepreneurial capabilities, promoting entrepreneurial culture in society, helping other universities become entrepreneurs, and developing social entrepreneurship in the country. He also stated that: “For economic development and public welfare, it is necessary for Iran's economy to move toward the private sector.”

Two economic sectors of information technology and tourism have great priority in the educational programs of the faculty of entrepreneurship at the University of Tehran because of their tourist attractive nature. Of course, business development has great effectiveness in changing people's welfare.

Spain, on the other hand, with successful experience in the field of tourism business development can help Iran with entrepreneurial matters.

The two sides agreed to exchange professors and students and hold joint seminars and webinars, as well as entrepreneurship events. Also, signing a memorandum of understanding with the University of Barcelona and holding an international Spanish language training course with the faculty of entrepreneurship were discussed in the meeting.

Mr. Ambassador pointed out that sanctions are a serious obstacle to the development of academic and tourism cooperation in the private sector between Iran and Spain. The Iranian scientists have increased their international activities in spite of U.S sanctions yearly with more than 35 percent of Iranian articles in Scopus being multi-national projects according to Peyman Salehi, the deputy science minister. Data from the Scopus International Citation Database show that Iran’s scientific diplomacy has reached more than 34 percent since the beginning of 2021, the highest level in the past 20 years.

Iranian articles’ international participation has grown significantly by 209 percent during an eight-year period (2013-2020), which has made Iran the Islamic world’s leading country in science diplomacy, according to the Scopus International Citation Database.
